El Paso, Texas -- Phillip Adam currently sits in second in the decathlon after completing five of 10 events on the first day of action of the 2008 Conference USA Outdoor Track & Field Championship. Adam has 3,618 points, just 79 points behind Houston's Wesley Bray's 3,697 total.

Adam's teammates, Connor Hayes and Joe Agnew are fourth (3,238) and sixth (2,306) respectively.

In the 10,000m, Brad Morris placed eighth (34:32.32) to give the Owls one point after two events.
