The Rice's women's cross country team posted a top-10 finish at the Notre Dame Invitational. The Owls placed eighth with 251 points in the 23-team field as Florida State won one of the most prestigious events in the nation with 88 points. Rice won last year's Notre Dame Invitational.
"Our top five runners all improved from two weeks," said Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "We are certainly headed in the right direction after beating some ranked teams today."
Ranked teams that trailed the Owls at Notre Dame included #10 Illinois (9th), #18 New Mexico (9th), #21 Texas Tech (12th), and #28 North Carolina (14th),
Rice's Lennie Waite, a senior, paced the Owls with a 10th place finish at 16:59. Finishing 18th with a time of 17:05 was junior Nicole Mericle, while sophomore Allison Pye was 32nd at 17:16.
