The Rice Owls women's cross country team captured the six-team HBU Invitational with 26 points. Texas-Pan American was second with 41 points and host Houston Baptist came in third with 58 points.
"This was a great performance for us by Laura Hudson and the rest of the Rice Owls," commented Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "Laura (Hudson) had her best race ever and this will give our younger runners an opportunity to get race experience before we continue our season next week at Pre-Nationals. We were without five of our runners and those that ran today for Rice really stepped up with their performances."
The Owls had five runners place in the top 10 including second, third, and fourth. Laura Hudson led Rice with a second place time of 14:25, Keltie John was third (14:37) and Marie Thompson was fourth (14:41).
Also in the top 10 were Claire Shorall running ninth at 15:35 and Liz Carstens 10th at 15:37. Running unattached was Sophie Peeters who placed seventh (15:28).
