Chao Earns Riviera ITA All-American Championship Pre-Qualifying Spot

HOUSTON - Julie Chao has been selected to participate in pre-qualifying at the Riviera ITA All-American Championship as announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
Chao (San Diego, Calif.), a 2007 All-Conference USA First-Team selection and Freshman of the Year, is coming off an 11-10 campaign that included a 10-8 record at No. 1 singles. She squared off against seven ranked opponents and recorded an upset of No. 43 Daria Petrovic of North Carolina State 6-3, 6-2.
The event kicks off with 128 players in pre-qualifying on Sept. 28 in Pacific Palisades, Calif. at the Riviera Tennis Club. Players need to win three rounds to advance to the qualifying stage.
Rice plays host to the 27th Annual Rice Classic on Sept. 21-23 at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium to open the fall season.
