Stadel 7th in Discus at NCAA Regional Meet

Rice senior Luke Stadel had a lifetime best of 55.56 meters/182-3 in the discus to place seventh at the NCAA Midwest Regional Track & Field Championships Friday at Drake Stadium. The top five individuals in each event earn an automatic berth in the NCAA national meet, to be held June 6-9 in Sacramento, Calif.
Stadel will compete in the shot put Saturday, where he is ranked third regionally with a best of 18.04m/59-2.25 this season. He won the Conference USA title in the shot two weeks ago.
Pole vaulters Jason Colwick and Tyler Whitham fell victim to swirling winds Friday and failed to clear a height.
C-USA double gold medalist Pablo Solares will contest the 1500 meters Saturday, and 2006 NCAA finalist Omar Wright will compete in the high jump.
