HOUSTON -- Rice senior Ben Harknett received an at-large singles bid for the 2007 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships to be held May 23-28 in Athens, Ga., the NCAA announced Wednesday.
Harknett is ranked No. 38 in the most recent Fila/ITA national rankings and was just named to the all-Conference USA singles first team. This spring, he has a 12-9 record playing exclusively at No. 1 singles. The singles bid is the first of Harknett's career and marks the fifth-consecutive year for an Owl to compete in the singles championship.
Harknett and his teammates begin post-season action on May 11 as No. 30 Rice faces No. 35 Texas A&M in the opening round of the team championships, taking place in Waco. A win against the Aggies would send the Owls to a second-round dual against either No. 4 Baylor or Oral Roberts on May 12 to contend for a spot in the round of 16 at the national tournament in Athens, Ga., May 17-22.
