Navarro Named American Player of the Week

IRVING – Senior Santiago Navarro was named the American Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
No. 60 Rice went 2-0 during its Florida road trip last weekend, defeating Florida Atlantic 4-0 before closing with a 4-3 win over South Florida. It marks the second consecutive week a Rice player has earned the honor after Petro Kuzmenok was named Player of the Week last week.
Navarro posted a 3-0 record on the week, securing two doubles victories alongside Kuzmenok. The duo, ranked No. 79 in the latest ITA poll, defeated Florida Atlantic's Mark Havlicek and Marek Pazdera 6-3, and South Florida's Hugo Car and Ettore Danesi 6-1.
In singles play, Navarro earned a 6-3, 6-1 win over South Florida's Elijah Cham and was leading Florida Atlantic's Havlicek 7-6, 3-4 when the match was halted.
Rice returns to action Sunday, March 22, at Tulane in New Orleans. The match will be streamed on ESPN+.
