Rice Secures Win Over Utah

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. — The Rice men's tennis team defeated Utah, 4-2, on Saturday in day two of the Battle in Boro.
Rice secured its fourth doubles point of the season. On court three, Tommy Czaplinski and Rafael Botran defeated Charles Frey and Emmett Potter, 6-2. Yair Sarouk and Kabeer Kapasi clinched the doubles point with a 6-1 win over AJ Deem and Lorenzo Esquici on court two. When play was halted, Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro led 5-2 on court one.
In singles, Utah evened the match at 1-1 when Simeon Terziev defeated Czaplinski, 6-3, 6-2. Noey Do put the Owls back in front, 2-1, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Huss. Frey then topped Sarouk, 7-6, 6-4, on court six to tie the match.
Kuzmenok regained the lead for Rice with a three-set victory over Teramo, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Botran clinched the match with a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 win against Potter.
Rice will close the Battle in Boro on Sunday against host Middle Tennessee at 2 p.m.
