Aaron Robson ran a strong lead-off leg for Rice and teamed up with Simon Bucknell, Colby Keithan and Brett Olson to place fourth in the 4x1500-meter relay Friday at the 80th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium. The Owls' quartet clocked 16:08.76.
Rice also did well in the 1600-meter sprint medley relay, where senior Pablo Solares used a 1:48.9 anchor 800 leg to move from sixth to second in the first heat and place the Owls seventh overall at 3:21.36. Bubba Heard and Tyler Whitham ran the opening 200 legs, and freshman Ryan Gard split 48.2 on the 400 leg for Rice.
Luke Stadel set a seasonal best in the discus with a toss of 55.19 meters/181-1, and placed 11th in the "A" section. Jon Turner also had a season best in the prelims of the 100, but his 10.93 did not advance him to the final.
Turner, Heard, Daryl Zavesky and Gary Anderson turned in a 42.79 in the prelims of the 4x100 relay, but did not qualify for the final.
