Owls Seeded 10th, Face UH in C-USA Championship Opener

HOUSTON -- The Rice women received the No. 10 seed for the 2007 Conference USA Championship and will face longtime foe Houston, the No. 7 seed, in the opening round of competition on Thursday at 2 pm at Tulsa, Okla.
The Owls and the Cougars last faced off at the 2006 C-USA championship, with Rice upsetting UH 4-1 on the way to capturing the program's first league title as the seven seed. The overall series between the two programs is knotted at 15 wins each. The winner of Thursday's bout will face No. 2 seed, and 52nd-ranked, SMU in the quarterfinals on Friday at 2 pm.
The host Golden Hurricane received the No. 1 seed for the tournament, ranking 44th nationally this week. Tournament action begins on Thursday at 10 am. Quarterfinals are set for Friday at 10 am and 2 pm, with the semifinals on Saturday, also at 10 am and 2 pm. The championship match is slated for a 10 am start on Sunday.
