Solares Wins Mile at UCLA Meet

Senior middle-distance star Pablo Solares continued his hot streak with a win in the invitational mile Saturday to lead Rice's men at the Rafer Johnson/JJK Invitational at UCLA's Drake Stadium. Solares, who was fifth in the NCAA indoor mile, clocked 4:00.86 to win by more than two seconds. Teammate Simon Bucknell, a freshman from New Zealand, gave the Owls a sweep of sorts when he won the 1500-meters with a season-best 3:50.20.
Late Friday, Aaron Robson had one of the best races of his career, finishing second in the 5000 with a personal-best 14:18.27. Justin Maxwell was second in the 10,000 with a lifetime-best 31:28.02.
