Solares Wins Fast Mile at Seattle

HUSKY CLASSIC
Senior middle-distance ace Pablo Solares outlegged a star-studded section in the mile Saturday at the Husky Classic at the University of Washington, clocking a season-best 4:02.84 to meet the NCAA provisional qualifying standard for the second time this year. Solares ran past Auburn's Felix Kiboiywo and Anthony Chiulli of Colorado to capture the second section, also taking the measure of post-collegians Kal Broderick and Brendan O'Keefe in the process.
NEW MEXICO CLASSIC
Bubba Heard and Gary Anderson placed second and third in the 200-meters and Anderson took third in the 60 to lead Rice's men at the New Mexico Classic Saturday at Albuquerque's Convention Center. Heard finished with a season-best 21.83, with Anderson only .05 back. After a personal-best 6.83 in the prelims of the 60, Anderson returned with a 6.93 effort in the final.
Freshman Ryan Gard was fourth in the 400 with an impressive 48.78, and Tyler Whitham took fourth in the 60 hurdles at 8.32 after racing to a personal-best 8.25 in the prelims.
Whitham, Heard and Gard teamed up with Daryl Zavesky to place fifth in the 4x400 with a season-best 3:20.35.
In field event action, decathlete Philip Adam was eighth in the long jump with a leap of 6.56 meters/21-6.25.
