Muller, Polyakov Winners at Baylor Intercollegiate

WACO, Texas -- Rice's Christoph Müller and Dennis Polyakov finished strong on the final day of the 2006 Baylor HEB Intercollegiate in Waco, both winning their consolation brackets on Sunday.
Playing in the gold draw, Müller defeated Louisiana-Lafayette's Piotre Banas 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (5) in the back draw semifinals. The sophomore from Germany then swept New Mexico State's Raman Stoisanljevic 6-4, 6-3 to cap the tournament.
Polyakov, a freshman from Houston, played in the green draw and beat Taylor Striplin of Alabama 6-2, 7-6 (4) in the consolation semifinals. He then battled Miami's J.C. Whitner in a pro set for a 9-8 (3) victory in the finals.
Next up for the Owls is the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla. Pre-qualifying action begins on Sept. 30.
