Owls Conclude Day Two at Baylor Intercollegiate

WACO, Texas -- Battling weather delays and tough competition, the Owls' Christoph Müller and Dennis Polyakov led the Rice men's tennis team on day two of the 2006 Baylor HEB Intercollegiate Friday in Waco as both players advanced to the semifinals of their consolation draws.
Playing in the gold draw consolation bracket, Müller swept Texas-Arlington's Diego Mattar 6-3, 6-3 in the round of 16, then fended off Sinisa Markovic of Texas Tech for a 6-4, 7-6 victory in the quarterfinals. The sophomore next faces Piotre Banas of Louisiana-Lafayette in Sunday's semifinals.
Polyakov, playing in the green draw consolation bracket, also posted a pair of straight-set wins on Saturday. The freshman began the day with a 6-3, 7-5 win against New Mexico State's Alejandro de Mucha. He went on to beat Lamar's Emmanuel Olivier 6-1, 6-4 in the quarterfinals. Polyakov will face Alabama's Taylor Striplin in the semifinals.
Tournament action concludes on Sunday morning in Waco.
