Solares Advances to 1500 Final at NCAA Regionals

Rice junior Pablo Solares comfortably won his heat to advance to the final of the 1500-meters Friday at the NCAA Midwest Regional championships at the University of Texas. Solares unleashed a blistering kick over the final lap to cross the line at 3:50.94, covering the last 300-meters in 40.2 seconds to defeat 2005 NCAA champion Leonel Manzano of Texas.
Competition resumes Saturday at 2 pm with the men's triple jump, and running finals start at 5:40 with the men's 4x100-meter relay.
