
Solares Fourth in 1500 at Texas Relays

Pablo Solares ran a lifetime best and moved to fifth on the Rice all-time list for 1500-meters as he clocked 3:44.84 and placed fourth Friday at the 79th Texas Relays. Solares ran with the lead pack throughout the race and covered the final 400 in 58.0 to qualify for the NCAA Midwest regionals here in May.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Charles Hampton, a transfer from Texas, enjoyed his return to the Mike A. Myers stadium with a season-best 9:09.63 to take ninth. David Axel was 11th in the race at 9:16.59.
Triple jumper Devon Fanfair finished 11th in the B section, spanning 14.90 meters/48-10.75, and Bahnsen Miller and Eric Spear turned in times of 11.13 and 11.16 in the heats of the 100-meters.
Running event finals start at 12:15 Saturday, with the first Rice field event action coming at 1:30 with Jason Powell going in the A section of the triple jump.
