Sophomore Tyler Whitham scored 6,076 points to finish 17th in the decathlon Thursday on the second day of the 79th Texas Relays. Whitham's best single event was the pole vault, where he cleared 4.60 meters/15-1. Teammate Ryan Walsh was forced to withdraw from the ten-eventer after the pole vault due to injury.
Friday's running events start at 9:30 am with the 4x100-meter relay prelims, and the B section of the long jump gets under way at 10 am.
