Powell Named Conference USA Athlete of the Week

Rice senior Jason Powell was named Conference USA men's track and field athlete of the week Tuesday after winning the triple jump at the Texas Southern Relays with an NCAA regional-qualifying mark of 15.61 meters/51-2.75. Powell led a 1-2 finish for the Owls in the event, with teammate Devon Fanfair taking second at 15.08/49-5.75 and also qualifying for the NCAA regionals. Powell's mark ranks him among the top five in the nation collegiately.
The Owls are at home this weekend to host the Victor Lopez Bayou Classic on Friday and Saturday.
