
Aaron Luna Named C-USA Hitter of the Week

DALLAS - For an incredible debut that included home runs in each of his first three college at bats, and four round-trippers in the Owls' first three games played, Rice true freshman Aaron Luna was named the Conference USA Hitter of the Week for Feb. 13 the league office announced from its headquarters in Dallas on Monday.
Luna is the first recipient of C-USA's weekly baseball award honoring the league's top offensive player. The freshman from Southlake Carroll High School batted .313 with four home runs in Rice's five games played. He went 5-for-16 with nine RBI and seven runs scored. Luna drew four walks and was hit twice for 17 total bases, giving him a 1.063 slugging percentage and .500 on-base average. The rookie slugged home runs in each of his first three college at bats on a total of four swings. Luna's power surge helped the Owls jump out to a 4-1 record to start the season.
The second-ranked Owls next host three team's in the first of the baseball program's two regular season home tournaments. Oklahoma, Long Beach State and Lamar all visit Reckling Park Feb. 17-19 for round-robin action in the annual Coca-Cola Classic. Game times are 1 pm and 4:30 pm on both Friday and Saturday. Sunday's action starts at noon and 3:30 pm.
