Ticket sales for the 2006 R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl through the Rice Ticket Office have concluded and Owls fans and supporters have bought out the school's allotment of 6800 tickets.
"We are proud to say that Owl fans have stepped up in a big way to show their support for our football team," Rice Athletic Director Chris Del Conte said. "I think our fans have shown that the assumption that we are a team that would not travel to a bowl was not accurate. Our fans are coming from all over the country to showcase their support for this team and the job they have done," he added.
Del Conte noted that Owl fans have not just purchased tickets to the game, but have also booked all the rooms the school was allotted at seven New Orleans hotels.
"There will be plenty of blue and gray in New Orleans the next several days," Del Conte noted. "This is a tribute to the loyalty our fans have, and to the job that Todd Graham and his staff have done this year to bring this school its first bowl game in 45 years."
Kickoff for the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl is set for 7:00 on Friday. The game will be televised on ESPN2 with Sean McDonough and Chris Spielman in the booth.
Tickets for the game remain on sale through the New Orleans Bowl regular ticket outlets.
