Jarett Dillard has added another honor to his spectacular sophomore season as he was named by ESPN.com to its 2006 All American first team. This is the fifth organization to include Dillard on its 2006 All American squad. He previously was tabbed as a second team All American by The Walter Camp Foundation, AP, The Sporting News and SI.com.
Dillard was joined on the ESPN.com squad by Robert Meachem of Tennessee.
The record-shattering sophomore from San Antonio did not begin the year as a member of the award's Watch List of potential candidates. But he burst upon the scene and into contention for the honor by setting school single-season marks for receptions (82) yards (1,176) and touchdown catches (20) and tying the NCAA record by catching a scoring pass in 12 consecutive games this season. His overall streak of 14 consecutive games with a TD pass is the second longest in NCAA history.
Both streaks will be on the line in the R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl, since the NCAA recognizes bowl games for statistical purposes.
The Owls return to a full practice schedule on Wednesday as they begin preparations for the game with Troy University on December 22. The team is set to depart Houston for New Orleans on Tuesday morning.
