Track & Field: Watkins, Miller Lead Owls at Houston Invitational

HOUSTON ? Keia Watkins and Bahnsen Miller posted the fastest times by Owls this year to lead Rice on Saturday at the Houston Invitational on the UH campus.

Watkins was victorious in the 400 meters with her time of 54.86, winning by almost two seconds. Teammate Anna Reeve also scored a victory for the Owls in the 1500 meters, posting a 4:51.50. In the women's 800 meters, Lennie Waite and Megan Smith finished four-five, with Waite posting a 2:12.75 while Smith was seven seconds behind her.

For the men, Miller recorded a 21.58 in the 200 meters to finish fourth. Eric Spear had his best time of the year in the 400 with a 48.55 to place second overall in addition to being the top collegian in the race. Aaron Redman also earned a silver, finishing in 1:53.98. In the 3,000 meters, Colby Keithan and Leor Pantilat finished two-four, with Keithan posting an 8:52.54 and Pantilat a 9:15.25.

Next up, the Owls head to Tulsa, Okla., for the 2005 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 11-14. Both the men's and the women's teams were triumphant at last year's championships, and the women are in search of their fifth title in six years.
