Owls Open Play at Wilson/ITA Southwest Regionals

COLLEGE STATION - The Rice women's tennis team opened play in the 2005 Wilson/ITA Southwest Regional Championships on Friday with the first round of qualifying singles and main draw doubles in College Station.
Senior Blair DiSesa and freshman Alanna Rodgers, seeded fifth in the doubles draw, recorded an 8-4 victory against Texas Tech's tandem of Janet Durham and Sophie Fankam in the first round of action. Sophomores Dominique Karas and Tiffany Lee also opened with a victory, dropping Texas A&M's Marisa Druss and Seva Iwinski 8-4.
After a first round loss in qualifying singles, senior Medeja Egic posted a win against Laura Harrison of Stephen F. Austin State in the consolation draw.
Main draw singles action begins today for the Rice women, where DiSesa is seeded ninth in the 64-person draw. The tournament continues though Tuesday.
