Houston -
Rice will face 12 nationally-ranked teams in the women's six-kilometer "Blue" race Saturday at 12:20 pm at the Pre-Nationals cross country meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
Led by last year's WAC champion, Kate Gorry, and NCAA qualifier Marissa Daniels, the Owls will match up with third-ranked Stanford and number-four BYU, as well as ranked teams from Butler, Columbia, Georgetown, Georgia, Indiana, Minnesota, Northern Arizona, Notre Dame, Virginia and Wisconsin.
"We will be running the toughest meet of the year so far," said Rice head coach Jim Bevan. "It's an opportunity again for us to see what our fitness level is and what we need to work on heading into conference."
Gorry and Daniels have been the Owls' top runners this season, with Daniels finishing 15th at the Notre Dame Invitational on Sept. 30. The Pearland sophomore has twice been named Conference USA athlete of the week.
Others expected to compete for the Owls include Sarah Yoder, Anna Reeve, Callie Wells and Laura Kelley.
