HOUSTON ? Rice finished its major preparations for Monday's season finale against Louisiana Tech Wednesday with a 90-minute workout on the grass practice field.

It was the first time the Owls have been able to work on the grass field since last week because of this week's rain, but coach Ken Hatfield saw the benefit from working on the wet natural surface.

"The field was a little bit slippery, which we know could be the case over there Monday," he said. "We saw what happened with that turf in that game (last Sunday night), and with the Texans playing there Sunday it could be a little loose."

Wednesday's workout was the last practice with the full squad in attendance. Only the travel squad will be required for the Saturday morning workout after the full team takes the two-day break for Thanksgiving.

Monday's game will start at 7 pm (CST). It will be the Owls' final game in the Western Athletic Conference before beginning competition in Conference USA in 2005.
