HOUSTON ? Rice put the pads back on Tuesday for the first of its two most important preparation days before next Monday's season finale against Louisiana Tech at Reliant Stadium.

"We got back in the swing of things," said coach Ken Hatfield following the afternoon workout in Rice Stadium. "This is the first time we've been in pads in a long time. We had to get back in and get the tempo again."

Rice (3-7, 2-5 Western Athletic Conference) has not played since its 35-28 loss in double overtime at UT-El Paso on Nov. 13. The Owls did not practice Friday through Sunday and went through light drills Monday afternoon.

"We prepared to practice hard: hit and cut and do the things you have to do. We haven't done them in a week and (Louisiana Tech) has," added Hatfield.

Following Wednesday's workout, the Owls will take Thanksgiving Day and Friday off before a final run-through Saturday morning.

Louisiana Tech is 5-6 on the season but 4-3 in WAC play. Monday's contest will be the final WAC game ever for Rice, which joins Conference USA in 2005.
