Women's Tennis: Rice Falls to No. 31 Arkansas

The Owls played strong early, challenging the Lady Razorbacks in doubles. Senior Erin Waters and junior Judith Hagedorn forced Chin Bee Khoo and Brenda Vlasak to a tie-breaker, before succumbing 9-8 (3) at number one doubles. Sophomore Jeri Gonzales and freshman Yasmin Fisher teamed up at number two doubles where they fell 9-7 to Tara Reid and Megan Ferreira.
Arkansas picked up the pace in singles and swept Rice in five matches to secure the team victory. Fisher scored the Owls' only point of the day with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (9) victory over Reid at number five. Waters lost to Khoo, ranked 19th in the nation in singles, 6-3, 6-1 at the top spot.
The Rice women, now 8-9, continue their current road trip Friday, when they travel to Dallas to take on SMU at 2 pm.
