Women's Tennis: Rice Falls to BYU, 6-1

HOUSTON - Junior Judith Hagedorn won her fourth-consecutive singles match, but it wasn't enough as Rice fell to 39th-ranked BYU 6-1 on Saturday at the Rice Kinesiology Courts.
Hagedorn downed Brooke Ferney 6-1, 2-6, 6-3 at number two singles for the Owls' only point of the day. At number five, freshman Karen Chao pressed the Cougars' Lindsay Ferrell in the second set before falling 6-4, 7-6. BYU also swept doubles action to grab the first point of the match.
Rice, now 3-4, resumes play on Wednesday. The Owls host Lamar at 10 am and Sam Houston State at 2:30 pm at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
