Women's Tennis: Owls Defeat San Jose State, 6-1

Led by the Owls top player, senior Erin Waters, the Owls defeated the Spartans 6-1. Waters topped Caroline Stenman, 6-1, 6-1 to win the match. Junior Judith Hagedorn, in the number two position for the Owls, defeated Anna Nordel 6-1, 6-0, while sophomore Jeri Gonzales defeated Coral Silverstone 6-3, 6-2. The lone loss for the Owls was SJSU's Helen Van defeat of Natalie Briaud, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Waters and Briaud paired up to defeat Stenman and Silverstone in doubles competition, 8-4.
The Owls were also scheduled to take on Pacific, but the match was cancelled due to weather.
Rice returns to the court next Saturday when they host Central Florida at Jake Hess Tennis Stadium. The Owls will host a double header on Sunday, when they face Texas-Arlington and Southwest Texas State.
