Women's Tennis: Goodrich Victorious at First Collegiate Tourney

Goodrich, a true freshman from St. Louis, Mo., swept all three of her singles opponents over the weekend to win her flight in her first appearance in the Blue and Gray. Fellow newcomer Karen Chao was also victorious in Sunday's singles action, battling Arkansas's Patricia D'Arby to a 7-5, 7-6 (2) finish. Also winning in singles was sophomore Stephanie Moat, who recorded a 6-1, 6-4 victory over the Miners' Adriana Boykova. Both Chao and Moat finished second in their flights.
The Owls paired up for three dominating doubles wins on the final day of competition. Sophomore Jeri Gonzales and freshman Yasmin Fisher blanked Boykova and Bjorklund 8-0. Moat teamed with junior Kylie Wallis, while senior Erin Waters and junior Judith Hagedorn joined forces for 8-1 victories over their respective opponents.
The Rice women return to action on Sept. 29 when they host the three-day Rice Tennis Classic at the Jake Hess Tennis Stadium.
