Women's Tennis: Owls Fall at UTEP

Junior Erin Waters and sophomore Judith Hagedorn produced the Owls' two singles victories. Waters held off Elizabeth Stone 6-0, 7-6 at the number three position, while Hagedorn defeated Ana Brnas 6-4, 6-3 at number four. Senior Elle Lewis lost a close battle with Jana Perkova at the top spot, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6.
Hagedorn and Lewis teamed up the Rice's lone victory in doubles action, defeating Stone and Elena Madjarova at number two, 8-5. Sophomore Natalie Briaud and freshman Jeri Gonzales were edged out in their tight battle at number three, losing the tiebreaker and falling to Brnas and Amy Dorsey 9-8.
The Owls continue their stay in El Paso this weekend, where they face New Mexico State on Saturday and Tulsa on Sunday.
