Lee Menefee was promoted to Director of Football Operations in April of 2023 after one season with the Owls as their Director of Recruiting Operations and High School Relations.
He is responsible for the administrative responsibilities for the football program including team travel, game-day operations, coaches and player tickets, budget, compliance, camps/clinics, and officials for spring and fall practices. He also manages contracts with XOs, ARMS, STRIVR, JustPlay and serves as the coordinator for any bowl or international games.
Menefee came to Rice in March of 2022 and in his first year on South Main, he helped guide a recruiting effort that resulted in the highest-ranked class in the rankings era.
He joined the Owls after one season as the defensive line coach at his alma mater, Sewanee: The University of the South.
Menefee was a two-time, All-SAA selection and four-year letterman as a linebacker and was named a team captain as a senior at Sewanee. He earned his BS degree in Molecular Biology and Genetics in 2019 and began his coaching career that same year at Birmingham Southern, guiding the Panthers linebackers from 2019-21.
Led by All-Southern Athletic Association linebackers Garrett Stevens and Myles Myers, Birmingham Southern led the SAA in red zone defense (67.6%) and set the school record in sacks (23).
Menefee and wife Alex make their home in Houston.
