Taylor Sauer is entering his second year coaching Rice’s rush ends, and his sixth overall with the Owls.
Sauer’s unit tallied a combined 13 sacks and 80 pressures last season. Tony Anyanwu earned third-team American All-Conference honors in his only season under Sauer, leading the team with 6.5 sacks and a ranking 26th nationally and tops in the American with 50 total pressures.
In 2024, his work with the Owls’ outside linebackers helped produce 33 sacks, which ranked 23rd nationally, and Rice's lowest average yards per game (334.6) and per play (5.01) since 1994.
In his first two seasons on South Main, Sauer supported a linebacking corps that increased its production in tackles, assists, sacks, and pressures in consecutive years.
Sauer began his coaching career at St. Vincent High School in Perryville, Missouri, where he spent seven seasons as Defensive Coordinator/ Linebackers.
