At Rice - 2014: First season with the Owls... Made his Rice debut out of the bullpen in the opening weekend of the season at Stanford and he went on to pitch a total of 14.1 innings over seven appearances, including five as a starter... Four of the opponents he faced (Stanford, Texas, Houston and Texas A&M) all went on to play in the NCAA Tournament... Brilliant in a 14-1 road victory at Texas State - in a game where the Owl offense garnered all the attention in a comfortable win, Smith started and allowed just three hits and a walk while striking out an eye-opening 12 batters in 6.0 innings of work... For the year he held all opposing hitters to a composite .222 batting average.
Cisco College - Played the 2013 season at Cisco (Tex.) College... Went 2-1 with a 4.24 ERA for the 40-13 Wranglers... Made three starts with five appearances out of the bullpen... Held all opponents to a composite .239 batting average and posted 16 strikeouts in 17.0 innings... Coached by David White.
Auburn - Attended Auburn University in the 2011-2012 school year... Member of the baseball program, but did not play in any games for the 31-28 Tigers.
High School - A 2011 graduate of The Regents School of Austin (Texas)... Two-year baseball starter under head coach Tom Bunch... Helped lead the Knights to the 2011 4A District 3 title in the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS)... Earned first team all-district honors as a senior after posting six wins with a 1.53 ERA and 98 strikeouts in 65 innings... Versatile athlete was also a football standout, earning first team all-state state at quarterback in the fall of 2010... Passed for 30 touchdowns and served as team captain in leading the Knights to the TAPPS Division III state championship... Completed 5-of-9 passes for 94 yards and two touchdowns in the TAPPS championship game... Outstanding student, who maintained a 3.53 grade point average.
