Hit .667 with 10 RBI in sweep of UAB
HOUSTON -JC Davis has been named the American Conference Player of the Week after his torrid hitting led Rice to a three-game sweep of conference co-leader UAB last weekend. Davis is the first Owl to win the conference's weekly award for position players.
Righthander Ryland Urbanczyk, who held UAB to a pair of singles over six innings on Sunday, was named Honorable Mention by the conference.
In four games last week, Davis hit .600 and drove in 11 runs as the Owls downed Lamar 6-5 last Tuesday and then erupted for 38 runs on the way to their first home sweep of an American Conference opponent.
Davis was 8x12 (.667) over the weekend and was responsible for 16 of the Owls' 38 runs. He drove in 10 and scored another six with three doubles and also stole two bases. In the field, he was the middleman for the Owls' five double plays, including four in Sunday's series finale.
He leads the Owls with a .356 average this season and is tied for the team lead with 53 hits.
Davis and the Owls will return to action on Friday when they open their final regular-season road series against East Carolina in Greenville, North Carolina.
