Owls Sweep Islanders in Win

HOUSTON – The Rice women's tennis team defeated Texas A&M–Corpus Christi 4-0 on Thursday at the George R. Brown Tennis Center.
The No. 41 Owls improved to 6-3 and remained unbeaten against the Islanders, earning their 17th all-time victory in the series and fourth home win this season. Rice is also undefeated this year when securing the doubles point.
In doubles play, Divna Ratkovic and Ema Mravcova earned a quick 6-1 win over Adriana Jiminez and Viktoriia Sedova on Court 2. Fernanda Martinez and Daniela Chica clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory against Juliette Jalai and Emma Bousquet on Court 3. On Court 1, Darya Schwartzman and Nithesa Selvaraj led 5-2 when play was halted.
In singles, Mravcova secured the first point on Court 6 with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Sedova. Schwartzman followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against Yelyzaveta Mykytyn on Court 1. Selvaraj clinched the match for the third time this season, defeating Jalai 6-1, 6-1.
On the remaining courts, Ratkovic led 6-1, 2-2 on Court 2, Francesca Maguina was ahead 6-4, 2-1 on Court 4, and Martinez held a 7-5, 1-1 lead on Court 5 when play was stopped.
Rice returns to action next weekend, traveling to Huntsville to face Sam Houston on Feb. 28.
