MCKINNEY— The Rice women's tennis team defeated conference foe North Texas 6-0 on Friday at the McKinney Tennis Courts.
Rice (3-1) jumped out to an early lead in doubles. Uma Bakaityte and Darya Schwartzman opened the match with a 6-0 win over Lou Chalard and Lilly Schultz. Ema Mravcova and Daniela Chica followed with a 6-2 victory against Marina Adati and Carolina Laydner to clinch the doubles point. On court two, Fernanda Martinez and Francesca Maguina were leading 3-2 before play was stopped.
The Owls carried the momentum into singles. Divna Ratkovic secured the first singles point with a dominant 6-0, 6-0 win over Batsukh. Bakaityte added a 6-2, 6-2 victory against Chalard on court two before Nithesa Selvaraj clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Schultz.
Following the clinch, Maguina defeated Petelinsek 7-5, 7-6, and Schwartzman closed the match with a three-set win over Laydner, 6-3, 6-7, 7-6.
Rice will face TCU on Sunday at noon in Fort Worth.
