Rice Sweeps Lamar in Friday Night Win

HOUSTON – Rice men's tennis cruised to a 4-0 victory over Lamar on Friday night at The Met in downtown Houston.
The Owls secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro opened doubles play with a 7-5 victory over Maxwell Lindstedt and Leon Nickel. Tommy Czaplinski and Rafael Botran clinched the point moments later, defeating Axel Bergh and Guy Dagan 6-4. On court two, Yair Sarouk and Kabeer Kapasi were trailing Fabian Anthin and Vicente Monge 6-5 when the doubles point was secured.
Rice carried the momentum into singles, starting with Kapasi's dominant 6-0, 6-1 win over Anthin on court one. Navarro followed on court two, earning a 6-0, 6-4 victory against Lindstedt. Kuzmenok clinched the match for the Owls with a 6-0, 7-6 (8-6) win over Nickel on court three.
At the time play was halted, Botran led Shukuda 7-5, 3-2, while Juan Porras was ahead 6-2, 4-4. Sarouk was also in control on his court, holding a 6-2, 5-2 advantage.
Rice will travel to Baton Rouge to face TCU on Monday.
