
Owls Take Down Tulsa for Eleventh Straight Win

TULSA – The Rice women's basketball team used a second-half surge to take down Tulsa 78-66 Tuesday night at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Owls claim their 11th consecutive win to move to 16-3 (6-0 American), while the Golden Hurricane falls to 12-6 (4-2 American).
Dominique Ennis had a career night with 26 points, featuring six three-pointers, with two rebounds while Hailey Adams added 14 points, 15 rebounds, two assists, a steal and a block. Aniah Alexis finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and a steal, while Victoria Flores netted 12 points, eight rebounds, five assists and a steal. Shelby Hayes rounded out the double-digit scorers with 11 points, eight rebounds and a block.
As a team, Rice shot 29-of-69 (42%) from the floor and 8-of-24 (33.3%) from three-point range. The Owls added a 12-of-16 (75%) showing from the free throw line.

HOW IT HAPPENED,
First Quarter
Ennis opened the game's scoring with a triple, with Adams adding a score to go up 5-0 early. Three consecutive Tulsa scores gave the lead to the Golden Hurricane before Flores got the lead back. After a Tulsa run to go up five, Ennis sank another three to get within two. Tulsa led 17-13 at the end of the first quarter.
Second Quarter
Ennis and Louann Battiston opened a 9-0 Rice run as the Owls grabbed a five-point lead. Tulsa tied the game, but Flores and Adams responded with scores to put the Owls back in front. Up two, back-to-back Hayes and Adams scores extended the lead to six. Rice led 32-30 at the half.
Third Quarter
Tulsa grabbed the lead to open the third before Adams and Alexis responded to go back ahead. Down by one, Ennis drilled another three, with Hayes and another Ennis score following as Rice went up 45-39. Leading by a pair, Alexis' layup followed by a Flores triple extended the lead to seven. Rice led 57-48 at the end of the third.
Fourth Quarter
Hayes and Adams traded several scores with Tulsa to open the fourth, with the Golden Hurricane staying within eight points. Ennis pushed the lead to double digits with another triple, as Rice eventually went up 68-55. With the lead at 11 points, an Adams layup followed by a sixth Ennis three-pointer sealed any comeback as Rice pulled out the win.
