Award honors players who played Texas HS football or play for a Texas FBS program
Tyler, Texas--Rice running back and kick returner Quinton Jackson is one of 102 FBS players who have been selected for the 13th annual Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Watch List.
Jackson was second on the Owls in 2024 with a career-best 933 all-purpose yards, highlighted by 589 yards on kickoff returns. He ranked third in the AAC and seventh nationally in KOR yardage and was third in the conference and 13th nationally with a 26.7 average per return, while his 589 yards were 10th best in school history. He set a school record with a 100-yard kickoff return at UConn, and combined with a receiving TD vs. Charlotte and a rushing TD in the season finale vs. USF, Jackson became the first Owl to have a touchdown rushing, receiving, and by kick return since James Sykes in 1976.
He will serve as one of the Owls' captains this season and was named to a pair of preseason All-American Conference teams as both a kick returner and running back. Athlon named him to its first team as a kick returner and on the third team as an all-purpose back, while Phil Steele had him on his second team as a kick returner and third team as a running back.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: Played football at and graduated from a Texas High School, and/or is currently playing at a Texas D1 four-year college.
The Watch List announced today will be narrowed to up to 16 semifinalists in November and then up to 5 finalists in December. They will be selected by broadcasters, commentators, journalists, fans, and previous winners. The winner will be announced in December and celebrated at The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Banquet scheduled for January 21, 2026, in Tyler, Texas.
