HOUSTON – The Rice women's basketball team is set to take part in the 2025 Discover Puerto Rico Shootout over Thanksgiving week in San Juan. The three-game MTE will be played on November 26-28, with the Owls playing one game each day.
The Owls will face UCF, Illinois State and Morgan State at Coliseo Guillermo Angulo in San Juan, Puerto Rico.
"I am excited for our team to participate in the Discover Puerto Rico Shootout this year," said Shelley Pennington and Friends Head Coach Lindsay Edmonds. "This will be a great opportunity to test our team early in the season and compete against a diverse field of schools. Opportunities like this continue to show how elite the Rice student-athlete experience truly is and I cannot wait to watch our team compete."
This marks back-to-back seasons the Owls will participate in an MTE, after taking part in the Cancun Challenge against BYU and Vermont a season ago.
Illinois State is coming off a successful 2024-25 season, finishing 24-13 (14-6 Missouri Valley), advancing to the Fab Four of the WNIT.
Morgan State finished the 2024-25 season at 13-17 (6-8 MEAC). UCF enters its third season in the Big XII, and comes off a 12-18 showing last season.
Rice was 17-17 a season ago, making back-to-back appearances in the AAC Championship game. All-AAC Second Team selection Dominique Ennis returns to the team, along with All-Newcomer Team selection Victoria Flores and All-Freshman Team honoree Aniah Alexis.
The exact dates and times for the three games will be released at a later time. Ticket information will also be available at a later time.
