
Five Owls Earn CSC Academic All-District Honors

HOUSTON — Jack Ben-Shoshan, Jackson Blank, Treyton Rank, Garrett Stratton, and Landon West have been named to the 2025 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Division I Academic All-District® Baseball Team.
The annual honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
Ben-Shoshan became the Owls' most valuable asset in the bullpen in his senior season, setting career highs in wins (3), appearances (23), innings pitched (42.1), and strikeouts. He retired 17 of 23 first batters, including nine by strikeouts, and stranded 20 of 31 inherited runners during the season. He posted a 3.6 GPA at Rice while graduating with a degree in Sport Management and was named a Rice Honor-Athlete and a member of the AAC All-Academic Team in 2024.
Blank split time between the bullpen and as a starter, making a total of 20 appearances, including seven starts. Seven of his last 11 appearances were as a starter, and his average of 9.9 strikeouts per nine innings was second among the Owls' starters this season (29 in 26.2 innings). He carries a 3.54 GPA while majoring in Mechanical Engineering and was named to the AAC All-Academic Team in 2024.
Rank started 50 games for the Owls and became a fixture in right field over the final 21 games as Rice earned a spot in the AAC tournament for the second consecutive year. He slugged .500 over the last 21 games of the season as the Owls were 7-3 at home to close the year. He was named to the AAC All-Academic team in 2024 and earned his degree in Sport Management with a 3.60 GPA.
Stratton enjoyed his most productive season as an Owl, ranking only behind Ben-Shoshan in appearances (20) and strikeouts (36) out of the bullpen. His three shutout innings in relief at Florida Atlantic on March 22 earned him a save in David Pierce's first win at Rice. He was a two-time C-USA Commissioner's Academic Media recipient, named to the 2024 AAC All-Academic team, and earned his degree in Business Finance while posting a 3.75 GPA.
West enjoyed a breakout sophomore season, leading the team with a .406 on-base percentage, finishing second with a .285 average, 30 RBI, and 28 walks, and tied for second with five home runs while playing in 55 games (tied for the team lead). He made 34 starts at catcher and 14 at first base. He carries a 3.81 GPA while majoring in Business Finance.
