
Owls Head to UH this Weekend

HOUSTON – The Rice Owls women's track & field team travels across the city for the Tom Tellez Invite at the University of Houston. The two-day meet will begin Friday afternoon with the women's pole vault.
Rice will have 23 athletes competing across 14 events.
Last time out, the Owls had a terrific showing at their own 42nd annual Victor Lopez Classic, claiming six event titles at the meet.
Julia Johannesdottir (100m hurdles), Daphne Mayer (5000m), Morgan Fey (shot put), Elena Siemens (pole vault), Alice Taylor (high jump) and Mckyla Van der Westhuizen (javelin) all claimed their respective event titles last weekend.
Schmeltzer's finish in the 3000m steeplechase earned her a spot in the Rice all-time top 10 list at ninth with a time of 10:49.17.
Johannesdottir's time of 13.74s in the 100m hurdles moved her into sixth all-time at Rice.
Van der Westhuizen broke the AAC record in the javelin, earning AAC Field Athlete of the Week honors with a throw of 60.29m.
