MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The second-seeded Rice Owls women's tennis team will open its time in the American Athletic Conference Championship in the tournament quarterfinals on Friday, April 18, against the seventh-seeded Tulane Green Wave. Action is set to begin at 3 p.m. from the Leftwich Tennis Center.
Rice was one of three teams to earn a first-round bye in the championship after earning a top-three seed into the tournament. Tulane, meanwhile, defeated 10th-seeded North Texas by a score of 4-2 on Thursday evening to earn a spot in the quarterfinal.
Rice is 16-7 all-time against the Green Wave, who the Owls have not faced since 2022. Rice has currently won 10-straight against Tulane in a series that has been predicated on runs by either side. Rice won the first six meetings before the Green Wave won the next seven, leading to Rice's current streak.
Rice comes into the match as winners of 11 of its previous 12 matches. In that stretch, Rice has also earned a 6-1 mark against ranked teams, it's only loss coming to then-38th-ranked Furman. Tulane earned its 12 win of the year against UNT, bringing a 12-10 record into the match.
Live stats can be accessed at the link above, with live streaming to be determined. It is unclear which courts the Owls will compete on tomorrow, with one set of courts lacking video cameras.
