
Bulls Take Series Opener

Game two set for 2 p.m. Saturday
Reckling Park: South Florida broke open a tight contest with 10 runs in its final two at-bats to take a 14-3 decision in the opening game of a three-game weekend series against Rice.
How it Happened: Rice broke on top in the bottom of the second when Landon West smashed his second home run of the season, driving the ball 401 feet over the wall in right-center. USF took the lead with three runs in the third and added another in the fourth before West drew Rice back to within two with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fourth. Blaine Brown opened the inning with a single and moved to second on an error by the Bulls' right fielder and then to third on a single by Michael Zito. USF extended the lead to 7-2 in the top of the seventh before Treyton Rank drilled a solo homer to left in the bottom of the inning to close out the scoring for the Owls.
Up Next: The teams meet in the middle game of the series on Saturday at 2 p.m. as part of Blue-Gray Weekend. Saturday's schedule opens with women's tennis hosting Middle Tennessee at 11 a.m. on Senior Day, followed by Rice-USF baseball at 2 and the Blue-Gray Spring Football Open Practice at 6 p.m. at Rice Stadium.
