HOUSTON - The 65th-ranked Rice men's tennis team will take on three different teams in three days, hosting the Texas A&M - Corpus Christi Islanders on Thursday before hosting a doubleheader on Saturday, taking on UT Arlington at 10 a.m. before taking on Abilene Christian at 3 p.m.
Rice brings a 7-4 record into the match, most recently falling 4-1 to the then-23rd-ranked Pepperdine Waves. After that, the Owls stayed in California to take part in the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club.
TAMU-CC is 8-3, but is on a three-match losing skid coming into the midweek meeting. The Islanders have fallen to Louisiana, SMU, and UT Arlington in three-straight matches.
The Mavericks of UTA carry a 6-5 record but have won four matches in a row, defeating Oral Roberts, New Mexico State, TAMU-CC, and Abilene Christian in that stretch.
The Wildcats of ACU are 8-5 overall, having won eight of their last nine matches. The only match they have fallen in during that stretch was against UTA in Abilene.
Rice is 16-0 all-time against Corpus Christi, a series that dates back to 2001. This is the first meeting since 2023 between the two. Prior to that, the series was played every year between 2009 - 2023.
Rice is 20-1 all-time against UT Arlington, with the lone loss coming in 2022, a 4-2 victory for the Mavericks. Rice defeated UTA last year in Arlington, 5-2, to earn revenge for the loss.
Rice is 18-0 all-time against Abilene Christian, a series dating back to 1999. The two played each other every year from 1999 - 2007 (except for 2006, the match was canceled), then again rom 2011 - 2022.
