
No. 71 Rice Earns 4-2 Win Over Tulane

HOUSTON — The 71st-ranked Rice Owls returned to the win column with a 4-2 victory over the Tulane Green Wave on Friday afternoon at the Evelyn Rubenstein JCC in Houston. With the win, Rice's record improves to 11-8, while Tulane falls to 5-12 on the year.
The match only saw the singles portion being played. Emir Sendogan earned the first point of the match with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on the sixth court, followed by Petro Kuzmenok's 6-0, 6-1 victory at court two to earn Rice a 2-0 lead. Kabeer Kapasi pushed the lead to 3-0 with his 6-4, 6-2, victory at the fifth line, and Tommy Czaplinski would be the clinching Owl on court four with a 7-6 (6), 6-4 victory. The match continued after the Owls clinched the win.
After the Owls clinch, the Green Wave would look to make a dent in the lead, winning the final two courts of singles play. Alex Gaudin would take down Santiago Navarro on three, 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, to claim Tulane's first point, and Luka Petrovic would earn a 6-7 (3), 6-3, 6-2 win at the first line to earn Tulane's second point.
Rice will return to action next Friday, April 4, for the beginning of the 66th Ralph O'Connor Rice Invitational against the Charlotte 49ers.
