No. 65 Rice Wins Doubles, Falls to No. 13 Texas A&M on Tuesday

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The 65th-ranked Rice men's tennis team fought against the 13th-ranked Texas A&M Aggies, but fell 6-1 on Tuesday night at the Mitchell Tennis Center. Rice falls to 10-5 while the Aggies improve to 11-5.
The Owls came out in doubles and threw the first punch, claiming the first match of doubles with a 6-4 win on court one by Petro Kuzmenok and Santiago Navarro. Texas A&M was able to take the match on court two to leave court three as a winner-take-all. Arthus de la Bassetiere and Eduardo Morais were able to pull through and take a 7-6 (7) victory at the third line to take Rice into singles play with a 1-0 lead.
In singles, the Aggies made a very strong push and won four courts in a row to take the match. First, Magadan on three took down Navarro, 6-1, 6-1, followed by 38th-ranked Papamalamis taking down de la Bassetiere on one, 6-1, 6-0, to take a 2-1 lead. Tokac on four took down Czaplinski to take a 6-3, 6-3, to take a 3-1 lead, then the Aggies won the match with a 6-1, 6-4, victory on five over Emir Sendogan. The match continued, where 45th-ranked Roddick took down Kuzmenok on two, 7-5, 6-3, then Ross wrapped up the match on six with a 5-7, 6-2, 7-5 win over Kapasi on six.
Rice will return to action on Sunday, March 16, for another ranked match against the 59th-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane. First serve is scheduled for 11 a.m.
