Rice Rally Comes up Just Short, Falls to Tulsa 4-3

TULSA, Okla. — 65th-ranked Rice men's tennis dropped a heartbreaker to the 59th-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Sunday afternoon at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The early-goings on the doubles matches were back-and-forth, but Tulsa would end up taking the doubles point with matching 6-3 results on courts two and one in that order. Arthus de la Bassetiere and Eduardo Morais were leading at the third court, 5-4, when doubles was called off to begin singles.
In singles, Tulsa quickly built a 3-0 lead with victories at the first and second line, both with matching 6-1, 6-2 decisions, but the Owls would rally, beginning with Emir Sendogan's victory at the sixth line, 6-2, 6-1. Next, Tommy Czaplinski would earn Rice's second point of the day with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at the fourth line, and Kabeer Kapasi would tie up the match at 3-3 with a 6-4, 6-2 win at the fifth line.
Court three would be the only match to enter a third set, and Santiago Navarro was tied with Carlsson Seger late at 4-4 in the third set, but the Golden Hurricane would go on to take the third set, 6-4, and earn a 4-3 win over Rice.
Rice will take on Oklahoma State on Tuesday evening to continue the road trip.
