Owls Notch Three Victories in Day One of Pacific Coast Doubles Championship

LA JOLLA, Calif. - Three Rice tandems notched victories on day one of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championship hosted by the La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club on Friday.
Rice's victories all came in the round of 64, where Eduardo Morais and Gabriel Porras led the way with a victory over Brady and Hayward from Ball State, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 1-0 (10-8). Next in the bracket, Kabeer Kapasi and Yair Sarouk advanced with a victory over Fourticq and Wakefield from Villanova, 6-3, 7-6 (4). To conclude the round of 64, Arthus de la Bassetiere and Petro Kuzmenok notched Rice's second victory against a duo from Ball State, knocking off Tran and Lancaster 6-1, 6-3.
In the round of 32, UC San Diego's duo of Lee and Tinoco took down Morais and Porras, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-8) to start off the round. Following that, USC's Hoffmann and Church defeated Kapasi and Sarouk by a score of 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 1-0 (10-6). To round out action for Rice on Friday, UC Davis's Bollinger and Taheri knocked off de la Bassetiere and Kuzmenok, 6-4, 7-6 (6).
